My VPS service provider accepts Bitcoin as a payment option. I thought this would be a good opportunity to see how a crypto-currency transaction worked in the real word.
First step was to obtain some Bitcoin. I chose Coinbase, as it seems mostly legit.
To add funds to my wallet, I had three options - Bank account transfer, Credit card, or Paypal.
I would feel pretty uncomfortable knowing that my bank could be drained on a hack, so this option is out. Plus, bank transfers take days to complete.
Tried to make a go of the credit card option. However, the system kept rejecting my address during verification. It locked me out for 24 hours. After that time period was up, I attempted again with the same result.
And option three (Paypal) requires you to submit a bunch of ID material. Again: No.
Will make a mental note to attempt this again someday.
