Doesn't feel like Halo, but is still watchable as a sci-fi action series.
So I started watching the Halo television series when it first came out. The first episode wasn't that impressive, with its shoddy CGI and cringe game tie-ins. But, I decided to stick it out and it has gotten better. I'm trying to accept the "Silver Timeline" as alternate universe that they intended it to be (like Gundam Wing vs the OG Gundam Universal Century titles).
Things I like so far:
It makes for better television that they are attempting to humanize the Spartans right off the bat. It should make for some interesting drama down the road. The fight scenes are pretty good. Episode five's climatic battle was pretty satisfying (with the exception of the Iron Man helmet shots). Cortana is growing on me. She is a young AI at this point, and has yet to develop her working relationship with the Chief.
Things I don't like:
Occasional 1st person to third person cuts are OK. But I dislike those inside the helmet Iron Man style shots. Dr. Halsey's actress IMO is way too young. The side plot with Kwan Ha and Soren feels like filler: I don't care about either character. The Sangheili race are way too bulky, they are much more nimble in the games. Master Chief takes his helmet off way too often: Yes, I know... its television and Mandalorian locked down the Helmet-On-All-The-Time thing.
Three more episodes left until the end of the season. I am guessing that last episode will end with either the destruction of Reach, or locating the first Halo ring.
TLDR: Halo the TV series has some Halo visuals, but doesn't feel like Halo. However, it is a decent scifi action series that non Halo nerds can get into.
