I'm exploring possibility to host a hub. Since hubzilla is federating with pretty much entire fediverse, whats the db size you guys have. Specially larger installations.

'larger installations'
in truth I do not know hubs with more than 200 people .. so if you speak of 1000 or more, probably you would be the first.

I do think of 1000+ I already run diaspora pod with 1700 users and large matrix and nextcloud instances. Of course I might be wrong but this could turn into a big hub. Since my matrix db is around 356GB atm (matrix instance open for about 1,5 years) i wonder how fast the hubzilla db grows

Hmmm, my problem would rather be "How can I get 1000 people to register on my hub and use it?" Do you have some secret ninja skills to get so many users?

hahaha no. Bu tI run project called
https://disroot.org
which brings a lot of users already. and now we have a big #
deletefacebook
actions where people look for alternatives. I heard from a lot of folks they need events and groups which non of the fediverse (diaspora/mastodon) pltforms offer. I think hubzilla with good defaults and prepared howtos tutorial videos etc could be what people are looking for.
The only question is, how fast the db grows. Even excluding the internal users (so content generated on the hub) but content in public stream which comes from all over the place seems to be a lot. I wonder how fast it grows.
Given the fact none of the data can / should be removed, I wonder what are the db storage needs for a semi large hub.

In fact, how big a hubzilla db (100 users) could be?

I know that diaspora and others have 1000 or more p/pod , but in hubzilla universe does not exist an hub like this, so, it is not easy to answer about the database.

...in any case you can set "expiration" in hubzilla.

My hub is only for a single active user, and two additional part-time users. Perhaps you can extrapolate from that?
When I used the diaspora plugin, after a year my database was about 1.5GB.
I had to set up a new server, and chose not to enable the plugin. Now, after another year my database is about 400MB.

Did you use expiration @NullSpaceOddity?

Stupid question: if I set "expiration", will my own content be deleted too after the expiration-date? I woul like to keep it, using #
hubzilla
as an archive.

Expiration: Your own content is retained and content you interact with or somehow flag as important is retained. Content from others that you don't interact with or somehow flag as important is expired.
